Embora a interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o, ou tradu\u00e7\u00e3o oral, em suas diversas modalidades (confer\u00eancia, comunit\u00e1ria, jur\u00eddica, m\u00e9dica, comercial, religiosa, etc) seja uma das mais antigas atividades humanas, ela s\u00f3 passa a ser considerada profiss\u00e3o na primeira metade do s\u00e9culo XX, com a cria\u00e7\u00e3o da Liga das Na\u00e7\u00f5es, e ganha impulso e reconhecimento ap\u00f3s a II Guerra Mundial, com a cria\u00e7\u00e3o de organiza\u00e7\u00f5es internacionais, como a ONU, a OTAN e a CECA, embri\u00e3o da atual Uni\u00e3o Europeia. Contudo, nos \u00faltimos anos, v\u00eam surgindo estudos sobre outras modalidades de interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o, notadamente a comunit\u00e1ria, a jur\u00eddica e a m\u00e9dica, j\u00e1 bastante profissionalizadas nos Estados Unidos, Canad\u00e1 e alguns pa\u00edses da Europa, devido ao grande volume de imigrantes atra\u00eddos por esses pa\u00edses. Os Estudos da Interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o (a partir de Interpreting Studies, express\u00e3o utilizada pela primeira vez por Daniel Gile, na primeira metade da d\u00e9cada de 90 do s\u00e9culo passado) ganham for\u00e7a como disciplina acad\u00eamica ao se apagarem as luzes do s\u00e9culo XX, ainda prioritariamente na Europa.&nbsp; As pesquisas da \u00e1rea fazem interface com diversas \u201csub\u00e1reas\u201d dos Estudos da Tradu\u00e7\u00e3o, a saber, a historiografia, os estudos de corpus, as quest\u00f5es relacionadas ao ensino e avalia\u00e7\u00e3o, entre outras. Cada vez mais, verifica-se a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de trabalhos voltados a aspectos espec\u00edficos da interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o em seus diversas contextos. Recentemente, o interesse pela aplica\u00e7\u00e3o da tecnologia e seus efeitos sobre a qualidade do trabalho do int\u00e9rprete e sobre o mercado em si t\u00eam despertado bastante interesse, assim como quest\u00f5es de g\u00eanero e aspectos sociol\u00f3gicos da profiss\u00e3o.&nbsp; No Brasil, a \u00e1rea \u00e9 ainda incipiente, tendo sido poucas as pesquisas divulgadas. N\u00e3o h\u00e1 nenhum programa de p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o voltado especificamente \u00e0 \u00e1rea, nem qualquer peri\u00f3dico dedicado exclusivamente aos Estudos da Interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o (EI). Esperamos que os trabalhos apresentados neste X ENTRAD possam estimular ainda mais a pesquisa voltada aos EI, criando a massa cr\u00edtica necess\u00e1ria para o estabelecimento definitivo dessa \u00e1rea de estudos no Brasil. A proposta do Simp\u00f3sio \u00e9 acolher todas as vertentes de estudos que tenham como objeto a interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o (oral): a interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o de confer\u00eancias, a comunit\u00e1ria, a jur\u00eddica e a m\u00e9dica, em estudos e\/ou relatos de experi\u00eancias voltados a quest\u00f5es te\u00f3ricas, \u00e0 forma\u00e7\u00e3o de int\u00e9rpretes, \u00e0 hist\u00f3ria da profiss\u00e3o, entre outras possibilidades. Em resumo, pretende-se acolher todas as interfaces dos Estudos da Interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o, excetuando-se a Interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o em L\u00ednguas de Sinais, por se constituir \u00e1rea tem\u00e1tica separada neste ENTRAD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Palavras-chave:<\/strong> Interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o, M\u00faltiplas interfaces, L\u00ednguas orais<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Abstract:<\/strong> Interpreting, or oral translation, in its different modes and settings \u2013 one of the oldest human activities \u2013 starts to be considered a profession in the first half of the 20th century with the creation of the League of Nations. It is given impulse and receives recognition after the II World War, with the creation of international organizations such as UN, NATO and ECSC, which later unfolded into the European Union. Over the last few years, other interpreting settings have attracted severall studies; among those settings are community interpreting, court interpreting, medical interpreting, all of those considered full-fledged professions in the United States, Canada, and some European countries, due to the large number of immigrants in these countries. Interpreting Studies (a term coined by Daniel Gile in the early&nbsp; 1990\u2019s) become stronger as an academic discipline by the end of the 20th century, particularly in Europe. Research in the field taps into many branches of Translation Studies, such as historiography, corpus linguistics, issues related to teaching\/learning and assessment, among others. Each time more, there have been several pieces of research focusing several aspects of interpreting, in its different setting and modalities. Recently, the field has attracted research targeting the use of technology in interpreting and its effects on the work of the interpreter and the market itself. Also, gender-related issues and sociological aspects of the profession have been studied. Interpreting Studies in Brazil, though still relatively incipient, are gaining momentum, but not much research has been published. There are no graduate programs with a specific focus on interpreting, nor is there any journal exclusively dedicated to the publishing of research in Interpreting Studies. We hope that research presented during this X ENTRAD may promote even more the research geared at Interpreting Studies, thus generating critical thinking needed for the definite establishment of this field of studies in Brazil. This Symposium aims at accepting research in all sub-fields that have (spoken) interpretation: conference interpreting, community interpreting, court interpreting and medical interpreting, as well as studies\/reports on theoretical issues, interpreter training, professional history, among others.
