No Brasil, conquanto contemos com experi\u00eancias consolidadas de ensino da interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o de l\u00ednguas orais em universidades e cursos comerciais, desafios persistem quanto \u00e0 inser\u00e7\u00e3o do debate em IES federais e estaduais, quanto \u00e0 interface entre interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o, media\u00e7\u00e3o lingu\u00edstica e non-professional translation. Nas \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, a media\u00e7\u00e3o lingu\u00edstico-cultural envolvendo l\u00ednguas orais e, mais recentemente, l\u00ednguas de sinais \u2013 tanto em contextos profissionais quanto em redes informais de solidariedade, como as media\u00e7\u00f5es na intera\u00e7\u00e3o com refugiados, pacientes estrangeiros em hospitais etc. \u2013 constituiu-se como campo de pesquisa que imp\u00f5e desafios de ordem te\u00f3rica, metodol\u00f3gica e pr\u00e1tica a professores, formadores de mediadores\/int\u00e9rpretes e practitioners em geral. Este ST busca reunir trabalhos que abordem e discutam desafios e possibilidades de atividades de interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o (formais ou informais) de l\u00ednguas orais e l\u00ednguas de sinais, al\u00e9m de media\u00e7\u00f5es lingu\u00edstico-culturais vivenciadas no Brasil. Contribui\u00e7\u00f5es de professores de LE, int\u00e9rpretes e mediadores s\u00e3o bem-vindas, bem como a apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o de experi\u00eancias, estudos de caso e reflex\u00f5es sobre o presente e futuro da media\u00e7\u00e3o e da interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o no Brasil. Com isso, os objetivos gerais do ST s\u00e3o: a) discutir a relev\u00e2ncia da pesquisa em interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o e media\u00e7\u00e3o no contexto brasileiro; b) debater experi\u00eancias de interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o de\/para idiomas orais raros e de sinais; e c) abordar interfaces com a ideia de media\u00e7\u00e3o lingu\u00edstica e cultural conforme o Quadro Comum de Refer\u00eancia para L\u00ednguas Estrangeiras. Dentre os objetivos espec\u00edficos est\u00e3o: a) discutir pr\u00e1ticas pedag\u00f3gicas em interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o, media\u00e7\u00e3o e non-professional translation em experi\u00eancias na gradua\u00e7\u00e3o, extens\u00e3o e p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o e b) fomentar o di\u00e1logo entre estas experi\u00eancias e a recente evolu\u00e7\u00e3o da atividade interpretativa em l\u00ednguas de sinais. Os trabalhos poder\u00e3o ser apresentados em portugu\u00eas, ingl\u00eas ou espanhol.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Palavras-chave:<\/strong> Estudos da Interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o, Media\u00e7\u00e3o lingu\u00edstico-cultural, Did\u00e1ticas da interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o e media\u00e7\u00e3o<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Abstract:<\/strong> The arts and crafts of intercultural communication has been part of the human experience since immemorial times (P\u00f6chhacker, 2007) enabling relationships between peoples and cultures &#8211; this phenomenon has been at the heart of research projects in areas such Foreign Language (FL) research and Interpreting Studies. In Brazil, while we look back to consolidated teaching experiences in the areas of spoken and sign languages be it in universities or in commercial courses, challenges persist regarding possibilities of broadening the debate in order to include federal and state (public) higher education institutions in matters such as interpreting, cultural mediation and what came to be known as non-professional translation. Over the last few decades, linguistic and cultural mediation involving spoken and more recently also sign languages \u2013 in official settings and informal solidarity networks such as with\/among refugees and in hospitals \u2013 unveiling new aspects regarding theories, methodologies and practices with direct influence upon interpreters\u2019 trainers,&nbsp; FL teachers and&nbsp; practitioners. The aim of this symposium is to gather presentations that point out the challenges and possibilities of spoken or signed interpreting activities (in official and\/or informal settings)&nbsp; and also experiences of cultural mediation in Brazil. Contributions of FL teachers, interpreters and mediators are welcome as well as presentations that aim at shedding light upon individual mediation experiences, case studies and thoughts on the present situation and future prospects of mediation and interpreting in Brazil. Thus, the overall objectives of the symposium are: a) to discuss the relevance of interpreting and mediation research in the Brazilian setting; b) to share experiences on interpreting to\/from \u2018rare\u2019 spoken languages and sign languages; and c) engage in the debate on points of intersection between cultural mediation as understood in the context of \u2018Interpreting Studies\u2019 and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Other interests are a) to discuss teaching practices in interpreting, mediation and non-professional translation at undergraduate and graduate levels and b) foster the dialogue considering the above mentioned and experiences and the recent evolution of sign languages interpreting and practices.
