Therefore, it aims to train Master’s and PhD in Linguistics who specialize in one of the concentration areas, with a base of linguistic knowledge of excellence that qualifies them to act in education, with research, extension and exercise in the classroom at all levels (from basic to higher education), and in other fields of linguist activity.

The Master’s degree equips its students in one of the research lines of the Program, aiming to enable them to carry out scientific research. In the case of a PhD, the Program offers an opportunity for deepening academic knowledge and to carry out independent, advanced and original research, focused on the current theoretical trends in the various areas of Linguistics.

Areas of Concentration and Research Lines – PhD and Master’s Degree

AREA OF CONCENTRATION 1: THEORY AND LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS

Research Lines:

1. LANGUAGE ACQUISITION AND LINGUISTIC PROCESSING

This line brings together research on two interconnected fields: Language Acquisition and Linguistic Processing. In the first, from an interactionist perspective, it is interesting to observe the acquisition and development of language and initial literacy processes. In addition, there are also acquisition studies conducted from an innatist perspective. In the second area, from the standpoint of Experimental Psycholinguistics, research on Linguistic Processing—focused on language comprehension, production, and their various interfaces—provides valuable insights. Both fields engage with studies in neurotypical and neurodivergent contexts, as well as in bilingualism settings.

2. DIVERSITY AND LINGUISTIC CHANGE

In this research line, linguistic variation and regularity, in the most diverse contexts of use, are studied under the synchronic and diachronic perspectives. Phonetic-phonological, morphological, syntactic-semantic, discursive and lexical aspects are evaluated under formalist and functionalist approaches, contributing to the understanding of both variation and change mechanisms.

3. SEMANTICS, GRAMMAR AND COGNITION

The aim of thisresearch line is to investigate the production and comprehension of the meaning of linguistic constructions (at the lexical, grammatical, pragmatic-discursive and cognitive level) in oral, written or gestural modalities, based on different theoretical-methodological conceptions of Semantics, grammatical studies and Cognitive Sciences.

AREA OF CONCENTRATION 2: LINGUISTICS AND SOCIAL PRACTICES

Research Lines:

1. DISCOURSE AND SOCIETY

This research line brings together studies that investigate the socio-historical relationship between discourse, subject and meaning from the following theoretical-methodological perspectives: French Discourse Analysis, Dialogical Discourse Analysis, Foucauldian Discursive Studies and French Semiotics.

2. APPLIED LINGUISTICS

This line brings together studies that investigate language teaching-learning processes, (multi) literacy practices, work and socioprofessional training, identity experiences, language policies, as well as the impact of the historiography of linguistics on language teaching.

More information at: https://www.cchla.ufpb.br/proling/apresentacao-do-programa/

Translation: Projeto InELC-Plantão de Tradução

Overview: The Graduate Program in Linguistics at UFPB aims to train qualified professionals to teaching, […]

["post-142","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
